Going On The Cheap

We've been talking about getting rid of our cable/internet service for a while and we finally did it. There are two consistent wireless access points I can use and a lot of sit-coms and shows are available on the network's websites plus sites like Hulu.com and Netflix (Not free but I already subscribe) . I did have to buy a wifi usb dongle to get access to the pc I have hooked up to my TV. My laptop had poor signal from both "free" access points so I hooked up my router to the pc's ethernet port and now I just use the router as an access point for the laptop. The downside is that my tv pc has to be on whenever I use the laptop and it can get loud. I think I'll set up the very old and crappy laptop and use that in conjunction with the router, it's quiet, wastes less energy and we don't use it anymore. Unlike my new laptop the old one has newer wireless card (which still doesn't work with my newer laptop) so the signal is pretty good.

Now that I write it, it sounds like a mess, but it works great. Oh, yeah and it's free. Hooray for internet users with little to no knowledge of wireless security!

The internet is definitely the frontier for entertainment. On demand is the way to go, with or without commercial interruptions. Wake up networks, put it all online. That goes for movie studios as well, the music studios messed up with music and now it's all free anyway. The movie studios need to get hip with it because information, like electricity, flows through the path of least resistance, and if we don't get it cheap and convenient from them we'll get it free from somewhere else.
