I had my first week at work and so far everything's pretty cool. Except that I don't have a pc yet--oops. It looks like i'll be working on some interesting projects though. The work environment is more relaxed and there isn't the level of structure and controls and in the corporate world, both good things that work well in a smaller team.
A couple of things I've noticed about TX in general. One is that I'm no longer short, I mean I'm still not tall, but there was a fire drill today and I was taller than 90% of the guys outside. In MN, I was shorter than at least 50% of the guys at the last fire drill. Also, there is a lot of Spanglish thrown around in most conversations. Plus, over here it's not only the cleaning crew that's brown, everyone is brown. I don't work with any white Americans, I don't think I've seen any on campus either. Oh, and my English is so unaccented that I sometimes get looks from people when I speak. And, finally as a welcome to the Valley (just a stone's throw from Mexico) one of the guys I work with, that interviewed me, and whose hand I shook on my first day at work, was confirmed to have Swine Flu today.
Tambien, the hunt for a home is on, more as that develops
