Sometimes it's just blatant

Racism, ignorance. That shit happens every day, in various incarnations, and usually it's subtle, but there's a guy (Manager/Owner?) at the Shell down the block that just doesn't care to hide it. I walked to the store a while back with Luis and Mario and we got a couple of things we were gonna bring back. We stood in line behind a couple of people and things were normal enough until it was our turn at the check out. This guy was rude, wouldn't look at us, and didn't even ring up the groceries! He counted up the cost of the items out loud, grabbing and tossing back the items as he did, then just told us the total. When we paid he took the money threw the change on the counter and that was it. We were like what the fuck? I said hey, you got a bag? This motherfucker throws a plastic bag on top of the stuff we just bought. I got pissed, and asked if he was gonna fucking bag it or what, and he said he just couldn't hold the bag and toss the stuff in at the same time. I think he saw how pissed I was and so he held the bag open with both hands and looked away so we could throw stuff in and we'd still be bagging our own groceries. Damn I was about done when Luis said fuck this guy, threw our stuff in and we just left. I was still mad, Luis was incredulous, and I saw that Mario--tough shit talking Mario--looked like he could cry (even though he'd never admit it). I had pretty much forgotten about all that until I saw this sign on the way to work about a week ago. You know I believe in free speech and all that but damn, you know this sign is just some partisan bullshit that people like this dumbass store clerk feed off of. That this sign is up next to presidential candidate Ron Paul, says a hell of a lot. It's sad to see, and even worse to experience--racism is alive and well in America.

  1. I noticed in the SPLC mailing I get the other day that one of the local tools went down to hang with the Minutemen on the border. I was going to post it tonight so my mother could appreciate that MN was exporting idiots to her city (Tucson).

[MN] Minnesota State Senator Joins Minutemen On The Border
    Minneapolis Star-Tribune / November 28, 2007
Dick Day took an unusual campaign trip this month as a Republican candidate in Minnesota's First Congressional District, which spans the whole of southern Minnesota from Wisconsin to South Dakota.
Day traveled more than 1,600 miles farther south.
The Republican state senator from Owatonna went to the U.S.-Mexican border at the invitation of the activist anti-open border Minutemen Project. He came away convinced that pressing for controls on illegal immigration will be the key to a victory against incumbent Democrat Tim Walz. […]
Day said his journey to the border was inspired after he attended a series of town meetings on immigration issues in Austin. About a month afterward, he got a call from the head of the Minuteman Project inviting him to the border. The weekend before Thanksgiving, Day flew to Tucson and drove a rented car to what is known as the Sasabe Corridor in Arizona, a roughly 10-mile-wide stretch of land between the San Luis and Baboquivari mountains.
