The vp debate was last night and Palin didn't have the deer in the headlights look she had in her previous interviews. She was, of course, mainly reciting what she memorized in preparation for the debate. Nonetheless, she was never caught completely by surprise. She did blow it though. She made public her intentions (and presumably her running mate's) to expand vice presidential powers beyond what has ever been seen before. This would absolutely go against the Constitution's definition of the vp's duties. This is evident in the fact that the Bush administration has not officially fought for expanded powers; but then Cheney's influence has been expressed surreptitiously even to the president.
I believe it was a mistake that Palin expressed those plans. There is no political adavantage in doing that. It can only hurt their campaign. It really should be over. We'll see.

Are you a democrat? How did you ever survive in LS without yelling at someone? Erik and I were the only two left leaners in the group. And I think centrist might have qualified as leaning left in that group - you know MB is voting for Palin.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason that reminds me of one of the first days we had a scrum and J.P. was excited about how we should all celebrate Columbus Day and wanted everyone to say what they were going to do, including you.
LOL, that's true, I got that conservative vibe every now and again. I'm a left-leaning conservative-sympathizing agnostic independent. I have a great aversion for party-line politics. I say live and let live, let god sort'em out.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I remember that Columbus day. I almost felt unamerican for acknowledging the history and not celebrating, good thing I have proof of patriotism. USMC vet, that's still valid right? :)
USMC vet will have to suffice, because paying your taxes and bailing out the system doesn't (according to Palin).
