Why I Won't Vote for Mccain

As you all can probably tell, I'm a pretty liberal guy when it comes to social issues, but I like a lot of conservative points of view regarding fiscal policies. I reacently read Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" and I found it a superb argument for capitalism, self-sufficiency, and small government. Unfortunately modern conservatism has (in my opinion) led to increased central power and lack of oversight of the executive branch-- a dangerous combination played out in Guantanamo Bay, and in the exceptionally horrendous case of Jose Padilla (an American citizen held for over 3 years without charges or access to council). Mccain was a very real possibility for me until he chose Palin as a running mate. I don't want my drinking buddy, my neighbor, or my plumber to run the country. We need a highly intelligent, deeply knowledgeable, and superbly capable patriot who uses the Constitution and not God as her/his guide.

As a side note: Jose Padilla was a bad guy, no doubt. Still, It doesn't matter. Press charges, present evidence, and prosecute--otherwise we're all at the whim of the decider.

  1. Ditto. I'm a fiscal liberal, if such a thing can be said to exist. I trend very liberal on social policies, but I like my government as lean as possible within that model. So I'm willing to pay extra taxes to make sure I have a good education system and good roads and a smart and healthy electorate, but you better be spending my money smartly. I don't think the current administration (or McCain will fulfill either my liberal social desires, or my fiscal responsibility desires).

  2. So fiscal liberal, then govt healthcare is something you'd support? I would, but maybe that's not a fiscal conservative. My big issue, is: how do we know how much taxing is too much, and do we really want to push taxes to their limit?
